Car Servicing & Repair

Description

We specialise in BMW N47 Mini Diesel timing chain replacement. Worn or broken.

You have a choice of bringing us either the car or just the engine.

Assuming there is no damage outside of timing chain assembly our ball park costs are:

Car (Remove, repair, refit and test engine) Engine fault codes checked and cleared. £1000

Engine only (Change 3 timing chains, 2 new tensioners, 2 new toothed gear wheels (camshaft and fuel injector pump), 4 new timing chain guides, new oil spray nozzle, new crankshaft oil seal, new fuel injector seals, remove, clean and refit sump. Oil and filter not included.
Engine rebuilt and timing set ready to fit. £490

If chain has broken, we check for damage to valve train, tappets, cam carrier etc and quote for replacement of same (at cost). This may add to the labour charge but usually less than £100.

If valves are bent necessitating cylinder head removal or the block is damaged and is or is not repairable this is not covered under the £490 charge and we can have a conversation to discuss options. So far we haven’t had to do that as the cam followers are sacrificial and usually shatter first.

Quite often the rigid breather pipe between cam cover and intake pipe disintegrates and will need replaced. This costs roughly £25.

Depending on mileage and owners driving style the clutch and dual mass flywheel may need replaced. If they need replaced we’ll contact you with options. If it’s an automatic we change the transmission oil.

If you are providing engine only there is no need to remove ancilliaries or anciliary belt nor the turbo nor exhaust manifold. You can remove the EGR and intake manifold as we do that anyway. But make sure you block all open orifices with blue tissue roll or similar. You can remove the engine wiring loom and water pipes but take pictures first so you can reinstate to original path and location. Heater plugs should not be removed when the engine is cold and they dont need to be removed anyway. Please talk to us before removing components.

Please see photos of engines previously repaired and back on the road. All photos are my own.
