BSA D14/4 Sports model 1968
A bit of a rarity, not many were made before the introduction of the B175.
I’ve had this bike for a few years and has been a running project through Covid and beyond, but now reluctantly need to let it go due to other projects in the pipeline. It has been extensively rebuilt and fettled and has been much admired at Bantam and other bike meets over the last year or two. Fully road worthy with LED lights and indicators it is good to go from the outset. It has been converted to 12V with a new wiring loom and is now running on a ‘Bones’ (OzBantams) electronic CDI ignition system, with a genuine Mikuni carburettor. It is MOT exempt and free of road tax. The bike was first registered in London SW9, and I have the original green logbook.
I’ve carried out a nut and bolt rebuild of this bike as follows:
Frame: stripped and resprayed. Side stand fitted.
Engine: full engine rebuild, including bearings, oil seals, rebore plus Rex Caunt con rod / top and bottom bearings. New sprockets to take 420 chain. Clutch rebuild with new thrust bearing and plain + friction plates, primary drive chain etc. New DID chain. The bike has done about 300 miles since the rebore. 2 year old gel battery with remote charging point.
Wheels: New tyres, tubes and tapes. New wheel bearings and brake shoes.
Forks: new oil seals, new headlamp brackets. New bars and levers, new gaiters.
The tank seems to have been lined by a previous owner. Lots of stainless fixings.
All in all a distinctive looking Bantam, although the chrome (apart from the tank and headlamp) looks better in the photos than it actually is – it’s showing its age. The wheels are sound but the chrome is somewhat shabby. There are cracks in the sides of the rear mudguard – please check all the photos carefully. Buyer collects – payment on collection.
