I have 2 x narrow bookshelves and a wider bookshelve. Backing on some of the narrow shelves. But if you have painted walls behind you could remove backing.
Also have a cupboard that could be bookshelves too. There is damage to one of the doors (dog chewed when he was a pup). Unsure if you could still buy single door from IKEA. Again doors could be removed.
