Description

Vintage 1959 First Edition The St. Trinian’s Story Hardback Book Compiled by Kaye Webb With Illustrations By Ronald Searle. Very Good Used Condition Original. Highly Collectable. Humour.

This amusing nostalgic book is evocative of a bygone era yet remains just as entertaining today.

Its 117 pages are illustrated throughout, in black and white, including numerous cartoons by Ronald Searle – as well as some photographs. The pictorial end papers are printed in a muted yellow colour.

Given this book is an original vintage first edition, and not a modern facsimile, it is highly collectable.

Compiled by Kaye Webb, the book’s contents include:

Surly Girls by Michael Flanders and Donald Swann

Obituary and A Short Dirge For St. Trinian’s by C. Day Lewis

The Fourth Form At St. Trinian’s by James Laver

School Hymn For St. Trinian’s by Robert Graves

St. Trinian’s Soccer Song by Johnny Dankworth and D. B. Wyndham Lewis

St. Trinian’s School Song by Malcolm Arnold and Sidney Gilliat

Girls! Girls! By G. W. Stonier

A Contribution To International Drama by Bertolt Brecht

A Short Ramble Round The Old Prison-House by Siriol Hugh-Jones

and, Once Upon A Time by Kaye Webb.

It was published in 1959 by Perpetua Limited, London and printed in The Netherlands by Drukkerij, Amsterdam.

The size of this hard covered black cloth portrait format book is approximately 190 mm wide by 255 mm high.

Although this book has been read it is in a very good clean condition and is a nice edition, having only been lightly used. All its pages, cover and spine are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting or prior owner inscriptions. There are no loose or missing pages, nor are there any rips or tears. Some pages show a pale yellow discolouration, and a couple have a few marks on them – commensurate with their age. The pages and illustrations are still bright and clear. The paper dust cover is missing. The spine is tight and in very good order; it shows some minor creasing at the top and bottom from having spent most of its life on a shelf. The original lettering and illustration, both in gold, on the book’s front cover are still crisp and fresh, as is the gold lettering on the spine. There are some marks and signs of use on the front and back covers – which is to be expected given this is a vintage item.

Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the overall condition of this book.

This is a private sale from a pet and smoke free home. The book has been in the sole possession of the current owner’s family since it was originally purchased shortly after publication.
