Description
Highly rated hardtail.
Cosmetic scuffs and scratches. The rear rim has a small split and will need to be replaced. The drive side chainstay has damage from the chain - please see pics. Shifting and riding well. Comes with new, boxed parts for a future drivetrain upgrade.
I've owned the bike since 2020 and it's been really good.
The pedals pictured aren't included as part of the sale but I'll leave them on for viewings (or replace with another pair).
£245 or best offer.
More details:
Whyte's rider height guide for this frame size: 5'10" - 6'2"
The drivetrain is worn but it's not skipping or slipping. It comes with a cassette upgrade with more range (Microshift 11-48T), new chainring (30T), and a new 10 speed chain (Clarks). I was planning to fit these once the current drivetrain had worn out but it's still working fine so instead I'm including them with the sale. The derailleur might need a Wolftooth link adaptor or similar for this large cassette to fit, I'm not sure as I haven't tried fitting it.
Original Whyte Trail 21 wheels. They both run true. Rear rim has a ding and an adjacent ~15mm split (7th pic). The picture shows a white line where I've removed part of the wheel sticker, and then the split and ding above that line. It's been like this for around 50 hours of riding with no signs of getting worse so far. I had a quick look for replacements: Wheelhut have a suitable QR 27.5" 650b (ETRTO 584×25), 10x135mm rear wheel for £76 inc. postage. Or a similar Shimano WH-MT500 MTB rear wheel is £60 elsewhere online.
The drive side chainstay has a gouge from the chain (6th pic). The good news is the damage looks exactly the same as it did when I bought it in 2020.
The frame has no other damage aside from cosmetic paint rubbing, scuffs, and scrapes. I've inspected it carefully.
Fork: RockShox Sektor Gold 27.5” RL. Lock-out, 130mm travel, solo air, adjustable compression and rebound. Drive side has a dent in the lowers. Fortunately, this is only deep enough to have caused scuffing of the anodizing at the bottom of the stanchion (visible when servicing), as it's so low the scuffed area never reaches the wipers so the sealing isn't compromised. Just serviced, ridden only to test. The oil that was replaced was clean. All new O-rings, washers, and bolts were fitted. Rebound adjuster knob is missing, but a standard allen key (2.5mm) does the same thing. Service kit with new wiper seals and foam rings included. The stanchions are in excellent condition, there is one tiny area of minor scuffing, I've tried to photograph it.
10 speed SRAM X9 derailleur (original).
170mm IXF cranks. They weigh the same as the original SRAM ones they replaced. Simple Shimano-style fitting system.
SRAM Level T disc brakes. Both bled and new pads fitted recently: front has had only 2 hours of riding, back has had 5 hours. Comes with spare oil (opened but very briefly and then well-sealed). New spare brake pads included as well (Union, organic). They are easy to bleed.
150mm Brand X dropper post. It's had around 80 hours of use and has always been ridden with a full rear mudguard fitted. It looks and works as new and pops up FAST! I have a new KS RAGEi dropper on a different bike and it's much slower. Full length housing, so you have plenty of scope to move it up if you're taller or if you want to clamp the lower section in a workstand. I will also include the original Whyte seat post.
QR seat post clamp - easy operation with a big lever.
Original Whyte stem and bars.
Saddle is in poor cosmetic condition as you can see. Works for me though - still comfy.
New SRAM bottom bracket.
Tyres are 2.5" MAXXIS Minion DHF.
Spare Whyte derailleur hanger.
Rear dropouts have threaded holes, handy if you want to use a mudguard with stays like I used. Newer versions of this bike don't have this feature.
Modern geometry. Good clearance on the frame for mud.
Internal routing option if you want to convert it to 2x (black sticker on the top tube covers the hole and there's a housing stop on the seat tube).
Chainstay protector has been removed so you can see the frame.
