Description
classic steel MTB converted into a capable gravel-style drop bar bike. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein build in spirit (my first real project bike), but it rides, shifts, and stops — just needs a proper once-over by someone who knows their way around bikes to really bring it to full potential.
🛠️ Key Features & Modifications:
• Original frame, forks, seatpost, and seat clamp
• Aluminium 26” wheels fitted with 26 x 2.1” tires – great for gravel, commuting, or mixed terrain
• Drop handlebars with Shimano Claris 2x8 STI shifters
• Shimano Claris 1x8 drivetrain – shifts perfectly
• Shimano Deore LX rear derailleur and crankset with narrow-wide chainring
• V-brakes conversion for better stopping power
• Kickstand fitted for convenience
• Comfortable women’s saddle (easy to swap out if needed)
🚲 Condition & Notes:
• Rideable as-is, but could use some servicing to bring everything to a higher standard
• Brakes were my first-ever install – they work, but could use a proper tune for full confidence
• Rear brake cable housing is a bit loose across the top tube, but still functions
• Handlebar tape is not properly wrapped – recommend redoing it or replacing it entirely
• Wheels aren’t 100% true – usable but could benefit from a proper truing
• Gears work flawlessly – no issues shifting
This build is a great entry into gravel riding or a fun commuter project for someone who likes a bit of character in their bike. It’s a mix of old-school toughness and modern functionality — ideal for someone with the know-how (or a local bike shop) to dial it in.
