Description
This has been a labour of love to build up into the ultimate rigid fatbikepacking rig. Selling as I use my Ti gravel bike now.
It took me years to find a Pinnacle Ramin 3+ in my size - these were amazing bikepacking-ready bikes, and are no longer made.
This is a bike you can strap bags to and head out into the hills straight away, ready to go.
The measurements are as follows:
BB centre to seat collar: 365mm - I'm 6' tall and it fits me perfectly.
Top Tube: 600mm
Wheelbase: 1130mm
Chainstay: 435mm
Post drop: 150mm / 30.8mm diameter
Firstly, the obvious - huge 3" WTB tyres on WTB Scraper 650B / 27.5" rims. Both tyres in great condition, loads of tread and topped up with tubeless sealant and new valve cores.
The front wheel has a Kasai dynamo hub installed - https://road.cc/content/review/kasai-fs-hub-quick-release-6-bolt-disc-288503 - capable of charging a 10,000mAH battery pack over a day's riding. The stem cap is a weatherproof Cycle2Charge USB adapter, that converts the hub output to USB to charge a battery or your phone. The hub and converter are worth about £300 by themselves.
The Brand-X Ascend dropper post is 150mm of travel, to help with getting on-off the bike when loaded, or for riding technical stuff. I installed it new, it's only had a week or so's riding total.
I added the Box 9-speed mech and 50T cassette, and the 34T oval Blackspire Snaggletooth narrow-wide chainring. Oval gives you more power at the top of the pedalstroke, for when you need to muscle hard climbs.
The Ramin 3+ has an eccentric BB cage, so you can adjust the BB axle height if you want to run 29er wheels, for example, or turn it into a singlespeed.
The fork comes with Drj0n lightweight cargo cages, and there's a Mudhugger rear guard to keep you and the dropper clean. The custom front 'mudguard' keeps front wheel stuff out of your face (there's no commercial mudguard wide enough ofr a 3" tyre)
I installed the brakes new, again minimal use. The rear pads are new and the front are like new. The levers are the older style that keep the cable close to the bars, to help when you're strapping bags to the front.
The bar is an On-One Mary 'Jones bar' design, really comfortable riding position with loads of space for strapping bags, mounts or devices.
I added a custom quick-release tripod leg, that clicks onto a small metal stud under the seat collar. The pole then extends and locks, making a tripod so you can leave the bike standing up when loaded or taking photos :-). A simple rubber band or velcro on the back brake lever holds the bike still. The tripod leg straps to the left-side seatstay when not in use, and can be unclipped completely in a second when not needed.
I built the bike up with new brakes, drivetrain, dropper, dyno hub and USB charger - and since then have done probably 500 miles of riding in the Cairngorms. The price reflects the rarity of the bike, the value of the components and time spent building it. You could easily spend twice as much and not get half the bike.
I can box up and ship anywhere in the UK, tracked and insured for about £40 (TBC once address confirmed).
