REDUCED!
WILL POST - I can post this for £7 if paid for by bank transfer. (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).
Acquired at a vide maison in Bligny, Champagne, this charming stoneware cornichon or pickle jar dates to the late 1970s and had been used and displayed in a country kitchen.
Although used it is very lightly worn and still has it’s original set of wooden pickle tongs and loose fitting cork lid.
Still functional as intended it is also a great decorative rustic piece of French kitchenalia…
In excellent vintage condition - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The photos best show the condition of this.
It was in a dusty condition when acquired and has just been washed.
The surfaces are glazed stoneware with a floral design and the word CORNICHONS to the front.
I have found no chips and next to no wear.
The interior is a little stained.
There is a secure side bracket for holding the wooden tongs.
The bottom has a little wear but is sound.
The lid is made from cork with a wooden handle and sits loosely on top.
The cork is worn with a small chip to one side, staining to the underside, and rusting to the screw fitting of the handle - see photos.
The handle is secure.
The tongs are in good used condition with wear and staining.
They are spring loaded and work well.
I can find no maker’s mark.
Measures approximately:
17 cm tall with lid on, 15 cm lid off,
14.5 cm long edge to tong bracket,,
12 cm diameter,
weighs about 950 g.
The wine bottle is to show scale and not included!
