Description

The Colnago Super is one of the most successful racing bikes in history. It was released in 1968, produced for more than 20 years while it was Colnago's top model. And became a legend with Eddy Merckx, Roger de Vlaeminck and Freddy Maertens. The Super was designed for professional riders and thanks to Columbus SL tubing was a synonym for strength and lightness.

This is an absolute timecapsule racing machine. L'Eroica compliant and ready. It is a very rare Colnago Super "Roger De Vlaeminck" tribute, originally assembled in the early 1980's by Ribble.

The frame is based on a Colnago Super, made of superb Columbus SL tubjng, with slightly different detailing. This includes the: Club symbol on the lower head tube; RdV lettering on the chrome fork crown, the fluted seat-stay caps, and the rear dropouts; brazed-on shifter and cage mounts; shift cable guides on top of bottom bracket; crimped chainstays; and decals declaring its heritage association with Roger de Vlaeminck.

Additionally, it is fitted with a working, period-correct Cateye CC-6000 cycling computer from the mid 1980's. Working, it displays speed, distance, and cadence information.

The bike is obviously over 40 years old. It has had little use in recent decades, but has been ridden and is a genuine, original, unrestored time capsule. So do expect patina, marks and wear consistent with age, including odd chips and tarnish. One brake hood has a partial, cosmetic split, but a new pair of compatible 'cocottes Italiennes' by Rustines, and often worn by Campagnolo levers of the period, is included if you wish to fit them. I have tried to capture the more obvious of these frailties in the pictures.

Also included are a couple of pieces of Roger de Vlaemink memorabilia. "Roger de Vlaeminck" by Raphael Luchon, published in 1978, and a genuine autographed colour photo of RdV in his Brooklyn jersey, 'sur le pave' - to which he brought his devastating experience from cyclo-cross.

Collection is from central Edinburgh, and you are welcome to inspect and ride it here. If you are unable to collect, delivery to mainland UK will be by Paisley Freight using their proprietary bike box and packaging material at a cost to you of £64.99 (which their price for that service).
