Description
This lot will be auctioned via Hampson Auctioneers, The Hampson Auctions Sale at Bolesworth Castle on Sunday 4th May, Old Coach Road, Tattenhall, CH3 9JJ.
8751 PG’ is a stunning example of the fabled MKI Austin Mini Cooper S dating from 1963. Austin factory records confirm ‘8751 PG’ as a factory right hand drive, home market model. ‘8751 PG’ is drawn from the first of Cooper S production in 1071cc form. Around 4,000 of these were thought to be originally built and, back in 1990, the Mini Cooper Register were estimating that only around 200 remained. Undoubtably, many less likely remain in 2025. With just three keepers to date, the first owner was known to be famed Mini racer George Lawrence of Ridgeway Racing in Farnham. George was a regular on the Mini racing scene in the 1960’s and it is noted that ‘8751 PG’ was campaigned by him at numerous events during his ownership. These include known outings at Goodwood and Oulton Park (and likely others) during 1964. The current keeper acquired ‘8751 PG’ in 2023 to become its third owner and set about a thorough and diligent restoration of this historic Mini. The restoration, of which there is a photographic record, retained the original shell and was reported to cost around £35,000. The results of which you can see before you today. ‘8751 PG’ is offered complete with a fascinating, provenance providing archive of paperwork and photographs. ‘8751 PG’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax.
‘8751 PG’ hails from the sweet spot in Mini Cooper S production with the faster, more powerful version of the Cooper released in 1963. This model featured a bigger 1071cc engine and just around 4000 were built and sold before the model was discontinued in 1964. ‘8751 PG’ retains its 1071cc engine and bigger discs compared to the Cooper and has been restored with originality in mind and without regard to expense. The vendor rates the engine, four speed transmission and electrics as “excellent.”
With the MKI Mini Cooper S being such an iconic model it is thrilling to see such a well restored example. Presenting in Almond Green with an Old English White roof, ‘8751 PG’ exhibits all the familiar cues of the revolutionary Issigonis designed masterpiece in Cooper S guise. These include the Austin Cooper S badges, chromed bumpers with overriders and corner bars, and black finished Minilite alloy wheels. Like the exterior, the cabin retains a highly original persona despite its full restoration and is finished in Porcelain Green and Dove Grey vinyl. Again, the MKI Mini signatures are all here including the centrally located big Smiths speedometer and the indicator stalk with a green telltale light at the end. In keeping with a fully and expensively restored example, the vendor rates the paintwork, bodywork and interior as “excellent.”
In summary:
A beautifully restored example of the iconic MK Mini Cooper S
Subject to a £35,000 restoration in its current ownership
Complete with a fascinating racing provenance and well known original owner
