Description
This rare carved wooden sewing cabinet was bought in Singapore in the 1960's
Move forces sale - hence low price.
I believe that the wood is teak.
The cabinet design incorporates a sewing machine (vintage Necchi Julia sewing machine included) three solid storage drawers for sewing items and a cabinet lid which flips over to becomes a table top surface when the sewing machine is in use.
There is intricate carving on the top and front of the cabinet - the sides and back of the cabinet are plain wood.
The sewing machine swings up into a working position and then folds back into the cabinet leaving the cabinet looking like a piece of furniture when the sewing machine is not in use.
The cabinet has been in storage for a number of years and could look even more splendid with some minor renovation such as a light sanding and waxing.
There is a small split in the front panel (see circular image with arrows) which is not really noticeable and does not affect the strength of the cabinet.
