Very Rare Antique 'Dallinette' Box Iron with Wooden Handle and Damper.
7 inches long at base. There is a large damper knob at the rear to alter airflow but I have not moved it. The iron is in amazing condition for over 100 years old. Obviously for ornament only.
Victorian/Edwardian.
Dalli started production in Germany in the last decade of the 19th century and they were sold in various countries up to the end of the 1930s.
The Dalli box irons were self heating irons with smokeless fuel briquettes to put in them instead of charcoal. A patent new glowing fuel according to their brochure.
Independent of stove and gas, it can be used anywhere and for the first time it was unnecessary to have two irons 'on the go' at once, as was the case with flat irons.
The Dallinette was a slightly smaller version intended for travel.
I believe this Dallinette dates from about 1912 and is much rarer than the standard 'Dalli' box iron. I have never seen another apart from the one in the Market Lavington Museum.
A rare item from my old family home in the servants hall.
