Stipple engraving, printed in colors (sepia, pink and blue) by James Hogg after the painting by Matthew William Peters (1742 - 1814),
an English painter and clergy man. Dated: London, 1785 This etching is one of the qualitatively pretentious, early and rare samples of color printing!
A young lady, mor that than a country girl is resting for a picknick during barley harvesting.
The image is in very good condition, but the margins show various traces of age and use, including a tear on the right side of margin.
A girl sitting in a landscape, holding rake, left hand on basket handle; she is Sophia Primrose, one of the daughters of the vicar of Oliver Goldsmith's 1766 novel 'The Vicar of Wakefield'. Two line quotation below title. An attractive print after Rev Matthew William Peters (1742 - 1814).
