Description
LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH COPPER LADLE, HANGING DIPPER, LOUCHE, IRON HANDLE, COPPER RIVET, 60cm long - 1900s FRENCH KITCHENALIA - REDUCED!
WILL POST - I can post this for £6 if paid for by bank transfer (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).
Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
Part of our copper kitchenalia collection, we got this from a vide maison in Bar sur Aube in the southern Champagne region where it had been hung on a wall next to an open fire.
It’s a hand crafted large ladle, or louche in French, with copper rivets and an iron handle dating to the early 1900s.
Used and now worn but still sound it make great decorative display piece of French kitchenalia, Fireside accessory and also an unusual hanging planter …
In good antique condition with wear and knocks but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
This has just had a wash - I’m sure it would polish up well if required.
The copper surfaces are hand made, I think spun rather than hammered, and well worn with numerous dents and knocks but still sound - see photos.
The iron handle is hand forged and is worn with some staining and rusting but secure and sound - see photos.
The handle is intentionally curved and flexes a little.
There are copper rivet joints which are sound with no movement.
The interior of the ladle is unlined and very worn with verdigris staining.
I can find no maker’s mark.
Measure approximately:
Ladle - 60 cm long, 19 cm across at its longest, 19 cm wide/deep.
Weighs about 900 g.
