Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

Part of our French copper kitchenalia collection, we got this from an antique dealer at Chatillon sur Seine, Burgundy.

It’s a big antique copper jam pan, or bassine a confiture, that apparently came from the clearance of a local manoir.
I’m advised it dates to the late 1800s and would probably have been a special commission piece for the kitchen as part of a much larger batterie de cuisine.
It’s a quality artisan piece, hand made with a hammered, planished, or martele finish, and at about 3.7 kg larger than others I’ve seen with an iron handle or hanging loop.

Well used and now worn but very sound, it is watertight, has an attractive patina, and is still functional today.
It also makes a great decorative French Kitchenalia display, planter/ jardiniere, or I’ve recently seen them used as bathroom or kitchen sinks…

In good, sound, antique condition with wear, dents and staining but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.

In more or less as found condition having just had a thorough wash - I’m sure this would polish up well if so required.
The copper has no flex to the sides and I would estimate it to be at least 2mm thick.
The copper surfaces are in good used condition with lots of visible knocks, dents, staining, and wear - see photos.
There are many dents and there is a very attractive hand hammered finish - see photos.
Watertight.
The upper edge is thickly rolled, secure and sound, I think over a circular iron reinforcing ring, but has split in one place with some verdigris staining - see photos.
The base is worn but sound.
The base has a circular concave indentation to the centre.
It stands reasonably well, if just slightly crookedly - see photos.
The handle is a rusted forged iron loop which, although worn, is strong and sound with no movement at the copper riveted joints.
I can find no maker’s mark.

Measures approximately:
46.6-47 cm diameter to the outside edge (the pan is slightly misshapen from the circular),
21 cm tall to the pan edge,
weighs about 3.7 kg.
