Description
I have for sale a bundle of 91 greetings cards dated in the early 50's and all for a couple called Alex and Doris. These are beautiful original early 1950's paper greetings cards all written to either Alex, Doris or both of them. There are wedding cards, Christmas cards, Valentines Day cards, and 21st birthday cards. According to the cards, Alex turned 21 on the 24th May 1950 and Doris turned 21 on the 28th September 1951. They were married and sent each other cards with adorable little inscriptions. There are also messages from family, friends, neighbours etc. Alex and Doris had a postal address in Manchester as evidenced by an envelope with old stamps (see photo): Mr A B Gale, 23 Ryder Brow, Gorton, Manchester 18.
This really is an amazing rare snapshot into history, with many of the cards adorned with embellishments, cute retro artwork, stories, layered effects and more. They are so difficult to find now!
I am a collage artist and originally bought these to use in my artwork, but I cannot bare to chop them up and want them to stay safe with someone who collects vintage correspondence. Having been born in 1929/1930, Alex and Doris have more than likely passed on, so I wanted to be respectful to their story. Please don't buy these if all you are going to do is destroy them.
Cash on collection only - absolutely no paypal. Located in Torquay.
