Description
Stunning Antique Victorian Balloon Back Chair
Circa 1830's to 1890's
The Balloon Back dining chairs were the quintessential symbol of the Victorian Era
These chairs were popular from the 1830's until the end of the 19th Century
The term Balloon refers to the rounded shoulders of the back with its nipped-in waist and curved cross piece.
When the chair began in the 1930's, the front legs were straight, although the back ones curved out as does this example I am selling
Wood: The chair looks to be made of a Prestigious wood such as Walnut (these chairs were traditionally made from Walnut or Mahogany)
They have a beautiful Patina that only comes with age
A very unusual chair with wooden seat rather than fabric, for a more traditional farmhouse look
With Studded Features
The chair has clearly been lovingly used, has seen a fair bit of wear which i honestly thinks adds to the character of the chair!
Bought as an Accent Piece, however moved house and no longer goes with the decor
As highlighted it has been well used.
There are flaws
And at some point had woodworm.
This has clearly all gone some time ago.
All Joints are Solid and Good for its age
A truly unique original Antique Balloon Back Chair!
Approx Dimensions:
Height at Back of Chair: 85cm
Seat Height: 44cm
Width at widest (seat) 28cm
Seat Depth 29cm
