Beautiful example of naive folk art from the early 20th century, depicting a village church in Gailingen (Southern Germany).
Oil on board; unrestored.
Signed bottom left, pencil inscription at verso - believed to be the title.
Vintage label probably from an art gallery giving information about the painter and artwork; this is in German and translated reads "Dietrich, Adolf. 09.11.1877 Berlingen - 04.06.1957 Berlingen (Turgau) Switzerland. Painter and illustrator, belonging to the circle of the New Objectivity, and at the same time main artist of the Naive school in Switzerland. Here: oil on board, ca. 50 by 38 cm (painting). Kirche in Gailingen. After Adalbert Sutor 1895-1970"
Condition
In good condition for its age, presented in what it would appear to be the original frame in a German style of the period. Dark brown frame with fine golden leaf details in the inner border. The surface has some scratches.

Adolf Dietrich (November 9, 1877 – June 4, 1957) was a Swiss labourer and, as one of the most renowned naïve artists, one of the leading Swiss painters of the 20th century.

Gailingen am Hochrhein is a village in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg, in southern Germany.
It is situated in a southernmost part of the region called Hegau in a unique location on the northern bank of the High Rhine just across the border from Switzerland and close to Lake Constance.
