Description
ANTIQUE FRENCH PLASTER BUST, STATUE, CHALKWARE COUNTRY GIRL, PAYSAN, SIGNED, 1900s PARIS - H33cm - REDUCED!
WILL POST - I can post this for £7.99 if paid for by bank transfer.
(Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).
Acquired from an antique dealer in Chatillon sur Seine in the Burgundy region, this is an early 1900s plaster sculpture or bust of a French country girl, peasant or paysan.
It had been used for many years periodically as a window display to commemorate the French Revolution on Bastille day, 14th July.
Soundly made from hand painted plaster or chalkware, it has a worn and illegible signature to the rear along with the number 220 and the word PARIS.
Now worn with some staining, scratches and chips but a nice patina and still very sound it makes a decorative great piece (if slightly eerie…).
In good vintage condition with wear, chips, and staining consistent with it’s age and use - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The photos best show the condition of this.
It was very dusty on acquisition and has had a dust off.
The bust is thick and sound with many areas of wear - see photos.
The surfaces are bright and sound but with some chips, paint loss, and scratches down to bare plaster or chalk - see photos.
Stands well.
Marked to the lower rear edge with a signature in the centre which is illegible to me, 220 to the left and PARIS to the right.
Measures approximately:
33 cm tall, 27 cm long, 14 cm deep,
Weighs about 2.2 kg.
