Antique Ernest Welbourn Prints Mounted & Framed Two Coloured One Sepia
I have 3 Ernest Welbourn prints all framed these belonged to my great grandparents, my gran was born late 1890’s, she passed them to my mum who recently passed away at 94 she gave me these pictures years ago and I hung them in my house from the 1980 to 2010ish. I have had my pleasure from them and hope that there is somebody out there who would like to display them as we are downsizing shortly and have to say goodbye to lots of treasures. I would hate them to go to a skip so they are looking for a new home.
The large Sepia one was reproduced by The Art Reproduction Co Ltd, Plough Court, Fetter Lane, London EC which was established in 1910. The other two are coloured but I have no other information regarding them.
I did some research and the larger one in colour framed etc is just over £100 from one company but obviously that’s a brand-new frame etc.
Large one is called either ‘Flowers of the Field’ or ‘Picking Flowers by the River’ as I have researched and found it to have two names.
The other two are ‘Across the Brook’ and ‘Waiting the Decision’ they have been together for probably more than 100 years.
The frames I think may be Bakelite but I’m not sure as I am not an expert of these type of things. The frames have obviously got some wear and marks considering their ages. One of the smaller ones has no glass but the picture is still okay. The back paper has gone, I shall try to take photos as well as I can. The larger picture has a gold inlay also around the frame under the glass.
Size approximately
14 x 17 ¼ inches for the two small
33 x 24 ¼ inches Larger one
A little bit about the Artist…….
Ernest Walbourn was a British painter known for his realistic yet romanticized depictions of rural and farm scenes in the English countryside. His paintings were widely appreciated during his lifetime, selling many canvases through the esteemed art dealers W. W. Sampson and Louis Wolfe in London. Walbourn was born on February 16, 1872 in Dalston, England, where his artistic training and home were provided for by his wealthy father. He went on to exhibit at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Academy, and the Royal Society of British Artists. Today, Walbourn’s works can be found in the collections of the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, United Kingdom, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, United Kingdom and the Kirklees Museums and Galleries, United Kingdom among others. The artist died in 1927 in the United Kingdom.
