Description
An antique cast iron flat iron, or sad iron. Structurally it is still in good condition although there are all-round signs of wear and use, although not surprising for an item that is around 150 years old!
These irons were used before the modern day electrical iron and were heated over a fire or hot stove. The cast iron material holds the heat in allowing the user to iron clothes.
In more modern times these pieces can be used as quirky doorstops or simply as an interesting historical ornament. They are also ideal for upcycling projects, although personally when I think about the history of it, the number of people who would have used it and the times it has seen, I prefer to leave it as it is.
Dimensions: H - 12cm x L - 14cm x W 9.5. Weight - 2kg.
