Description

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Chief Internal Auditor – Risk and Audit Manager to lead our Corporate Support Services in delivering robust governance, risk management, and internal audit functions that protect and enhance our organisation’s performance.

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, ideal for a highly skilled professional with a strong track record in complex audit environments.

Location: Trinity Road, Bootle, Merseyside, L20 3NJ

Hours: 22 hours per week

Pay: £30.00 per hour umbrella

About the Role:

As Chief Internal Auditor – Risk and Audit Manager, you will oversee internal audit, risk management, insurance, health & safety, and resilience functions, ensuring they meet the highest professional standards. You will work closely with senior leaders to support strategic objectives, drive service improvements, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and manage a comprehensive internal audit service in line with Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS).

* Oversee risk management, governance, insurance, health & safety, and civil contingencies.

* Develop strategic objectives and performance management frameworks.

* Advise and influence senior leaders, providing clear analysis and persuasive recommendations.

* Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

* Manage complex audit projects from planning to completion, including procurement and contract audits.

Essential Requirements:

* Member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) or a qualified accountant (CCAB) with internal audit experience.

* Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing complex audit services.

* Strong understanding of the regulatory environment for public service organisations.

* Proven skills in negotiation, influence, and stakeholder management.

* In-depth knowledge of legislation and regulations covering Health & Safety, Insurance, Civil Contingencies, and Audit.

* Demonstrable experience in data analysis, risk assessment, and strategic planning.
