Service Care Solutions are working alongside a local authority in Sefton who are looking to recruit and experience and driven Chief Internal Auditor to join their team on a temporary contract. Please see a description of the role below.

Role: Chief Internal Auditor.

Rate: £30.84 to £34.72 (PAYE exc.) / £35.10 to £39.62 (Umbrella/Ltd).

Location: Sefton, Liverpool.

Contract: 6 months on going.

Working: Hybrid, 22 hrs per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership across Internal Audit, Risk, Health & Safety, Insurance, and Emergency Planning functions.

Develop and implement robust strategies, policies, and frameworks that align with legislation and best practice.

Maintain the Corporate Risk Register and assurance framework through the Corporate Risk Management Group.

Deliver independent assurance on governance, risk, and internal control to senior management and elected members.

Oversee the delivery of a risk-based Internal Audit Plan and Health & Safety Audit Plan.

Lead on all anti-fraud initiatives, investigations, and statutory reporting.

Support value-for-money reviews and advise on efficiency improvements across the Council.

Ensure emergency response and business continuity plans meet Civil Contingencies Act requirements.

Manage insurance provision and claims processes to safeguard Council assets and liabilities.

Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and the Merseyside Resilience Forum.

Produce the Annual Governance Statement and oversee audit of grant claims.

Strong leadership in governance, audit, risk, or compliance functions within the public sector.

In-depth knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks.

Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
