Description
Hi,
I’m Cel (they/them). I’m a qualified and experienced teacher specialising in the younger age groups (3-7).
What I can offer:
- Private tuition 1-1 or in small groups, after school or during weekends and holidays
- Consultation and advice on any areas of need or concern for your child’s development
- Childcare; this can be paired with tuition, or arranged on its own
Also: I offer coaching and support for teachers, EYFS settings and families too! My website isn't up and running for this yet but do feel free to ask
I’ve been teaching in schools for 11 years, mostly in Nursery and Reception classes, but also in the wider school, working with older children and leading on specific subjects.
I specialised in languages on my training (I speak fluent French, some Spanish and I’m learning Italian - 250 days on Duo!)
My main strengths and what I love about teaching little ones:
- Connection and humour: yes, my sense of humour is much more appreciated by my pupils than any of my friends and family! (references available😆)
- Developing language, confidence and curiosity through play & activities
- Tailored teaching that meets the child at their level and guides them to build on their knowledge and skills
- In-depth knowledge of the Early Years framework and curriculum
- Learning that centres around and celebrates a child’s interests, individual personality and learning style
- Tailored SEN support and guidance (see below)
Specific areas that can be targeted:
- Speaking and listening
- Phonics, Reading and Writing
- Fine or gross motor skills
- Personal, social and emotional understanding and development
- Developing fundamental skills such as independence, perseverance and enquiry
- Early Mathematics
- Arts & Crafts
- English as an additional language
- French
Learning in the Early Years happens mainly through play and through engaging and capitalising on children’s natural interests and their curiosity. I am very good at identifying and drawing out teaching opportunities and links to the curriculum, when to the outside eye it may look like children are ‘just playing’!
I’d be more than happy to share more on this if you’re interested.
Additional needs / SEN
When children start school, it is often the time when any difficulties related to learning, socialising and structure begin to emerge, and I have a lot of experience in supporting families, working with school SENCOs and putting support in place which may or may not involve making referrals or seeking specialist advice.
I can help families to navigate this type of journey, and help you to find ways to work with the school or GP to ensure that your views are heard and your child gets the right help when they need it. Or if you're quite clear already about what your child needs, then I will be delighted to learn about them and follow your guidance, and to plan sessions that will work for them.
Inclusivity
I am passionate about inclusivity, accessibility and challenging bias or discrimination, and this informs my practice in many ways.
If you’d like to know more, or are interested in discussing your child’s needs with me, then please get in touch! I’ll be very happy to hear from you.
