Where to Install the Child Seat

Child safety seats are suitable for installation on the left or right side of the vehicle's rear row (second row). The position behind the driver is relatively safer, as the front seat provides secondary cushioning protection.

The drawback of the left rear position is that when placing or lifting the baby, it is closer to the road side rather than the curb, posing certain safety risks. When using this position, always ensure safety during entry and exit.

The rear seat behind the front passenger not only allows the driver to observe the baby through the rearview mirror and check if the seatbelt has been unfastened by the baby but also makes it safer for the baby to enter and exit the sidewalk.

Therefore, generally speaking, the position behind the front passenger is the optimal installation location for a child safety seat. Additionally, it is important to note that the front passenger seat and the third row in seven-seater vehicles have lower safety ratings and should be avoided if possible.

Functions of Child Safety Seats:

  1. Seatbelt: The child safety seat functions similarly to a seatbelt.
  2. Protection: The raised sides of the child safety seat provide better wrapping and enhanced protection for the child's head and sides.
  3. Injury Reduction: In the event of a car collision or sudden deceleration, it can reduce the impact force on the child and limit their body movement, thereby minimizing injuries.

From a safety engineer’s perspective, the rear centre seat is statistically the safest for child seats, offering the most protection from side collisions. However, many cars lack ISOFIX points here, so the outer rear seats are acceptable alternatives. Always prioritise a proper, rigid installation over convenience. Check the vehicle handbook for approved positions, as not all seats are suitable for every car model.
