The logo's evolution reflects Mercedes-Benz's engineering legacy. The three-pointed star signifies technological leadership, while the circle denotes global reach and seamless innovation. Over time, minimal design tweaks have modernised the emblem, but its core meaning remains unchanged.

For context, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, merged with Benz & Cie. in 1926, combining the Benz laurel wreath with the Daimler star. The merged logo briefly featured both elements before simplifying to the current star-in-circle design.

Daimler's inspiration for the star came from a letter to his wife, believing the star he'd drawn on their house would bring good fortune. The three-pointed star also represents the company's ambition to dominate land, sea and air transportation. In 1909, to commemorate the mass production of his vehicles, Daimler replaced the cogwheel design within the star with laurel leaves to signify victory. The name 'Mercedes' was taken from the beautiful daughter of Emil Jellinek, an Austrian car dealer. The Spanish name Mercedes carries connotations of good luck. In June 1909, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft registered the three-pointed star as its vehicle emblem, symbolising mechanisation across land, water and air. In 1916, the design was encircled with four small stars above and the word 'Mercedes' below.

Mercedes-Benz is a world-renowned luxury automotive brand. In January 1886, Karl Benz invented the world's first three-wheeled automobile, securing its patent and being hailed as the inventor of the motor car. Concurrently, Gottlieb Daimler, another founder of Mercedes-Benz, developed the world's first four-wheeled motor vehicle.
