59Mismatched speed and gear primarily occurs in manual transmission vehicles. There are two key scenarios: high gear at low speed, and low gear at high speed. Initially, high gear at low speed can cause insufficient engine power, resulting in car juddering and vibrations, potentially leading to stalling. Driving in this manner is highly dangerous and poses significant safety risks.
Conversely, low gear at high speed restricts the vehicle's velocity, with excessively high engine revs increasing noise and accelerating engine wear, thereby indirectly shortening the engine's lifespan. Most manual gearboxes comprise 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th gears and reverse (R). Gears 1 through 5 are essentially forward gears, whilst R serves as the reverse gear.
