The transmission methods of the camshaft are:
1.Cylindrical gear transmission;
2.Bevel gear transmission;
3.Chain transmission.
Cylindrical gear transmission: For overhead camshafts and underhead camshafts, the valve mechanism mostly uses cylindrical timing gear transmission. The crankshaft gear meshes with the camshaft gear through an intermediate gear. Timing gears often use helical teeth to ensure smooth meshing and reduce noise. The gears are made of steel or cast iron.
Advantages: Simple structure and process, easy assembly and disassembly, and reliable technology. However, when gear transmission is used for overhead camshafts, the number of intermediate gears increases, adding complexity and weight.
Bevel gear transmission: This transmission method is mostly used in lightweight, high-speed, high-power internal combustion engines with overhead camshafts. Because the camshaft is far from the crankshaft, bevel gears and vertical elastic shafts are used for transmission. Its characteristics are: compact and reliable structure, but complex and inconvenient for assembly and disassembly.
Chain transmission: Chain transmission is used in some overhead camshaft valve mechanisms to protect the valve mechanism from inertial loads. This device requires high-quality chains, and the chain should maintain a certain tension during operation to avoid derailing. Therefore, a tensioner sprocket is installed, and adjusting the position of the tensioner sprocket can change the chain tension.
Characteristics of chain transmission: Good working reliability, but durability is not as good as gear transmission devices.
