The causes and solutions for water accumulation under the car's driver foot mat are as follows:

  1. The water under the driver's foot mat is most likely condensation from the air conditioning. When the car's air conditioning cools, it produces a significant amount of water, which is typically drained outside the vehicle via a hose near the condenser. If this hose was not properly connected to the underside of the car during manufacturing, the water may accumulate inside. Owners should promptly check for water ingress. If water has entered the exhaust pipe, do not start the engine; instead, arrange for the car to be towed to a 4S repair shop.
  2. Blocked drainage holes or channels. This can cause rainwater to seep into the car without being drained. It is necessary to promptly clear any blockages and remove the water under the foot mat.
  3. Leaking sunroof, damaged seals, or a corroded heater matrix, leading to water leakage. Inspect potential leak points such as the sunroof and carry out repairs as needed. Replace any worn or damaged seals and repair or replace the heater matrix.
  4. Improper car washing. Water from washing the car may not have been properly cleared, resulting in water accumulation under the foot mat. Ensure the area is dried thoroughly and the foot mat is aired out.

It is advisable to choose waterproof foot mats for your car. Non-waterproof mats can develop mould and unpleasant odours over time, reducing their lifespan and potentially causing secondary contamination to the vehicle. Therefore, opt for high-quality, waterproof foot mats when selecting car mats.
