If you’re not hearing WeChat notifications while using CarPlay, the issue is likely due to settings in either your iPhone or CarPlay. Start by checking your iPhone’s notification settings for WeChat. Open Settings, go to Notifications, select WeChat, and ensure sounds are enabled. Next, verify CarPlay’s audio settings. While connected, check if your car’s infotainment system is set to prioritise phone calls or navigation alerts over app notifications. Some cars mute non-essential alerts during driving for safety.

Another common fix is to restart both your iPhone and the car’s system. CarPlay can sometimes glitch, especially after iOS updates. If the problem persists, try re-pairing your iPhone with CarPlay via Bluetooth or USB. Also, ensure Do Not Disturb mode is off, as it can silence notifications.

For deeper troubleshooting, test WeChat notifications with CarPlay disconnected. If they work normally, the issue is CarPlay-specific. Some cars, like the BMW iX or Ford Focus, have custom audio routing settings—consult your vehicle’s manual. Lastly, check if WeChat has CarPlay permissions in iPhone Settings under Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.

It is quite normal for WeChat not to have a notification sound when using CarPlay. The CarPlay in-car system is designed to block all message notifications except for phone calls and text messages.

Many people have encountered the situation where WeChat does not ring when using CarPlay. After connecting the phone to the CarPlay in-car system, not only WeChat but also many other apps' messages do not have notification sounds. CarPlay cannot enable WeChat notifications; it blocks message alerts from third-party apps. This is inherently part of iPhone's settings for CarPlay, primarily to prevent drivers from being distracted by notifications from mobile apps, thereby enhancing driving safety. Therefore, it is best for drivers to avoid chatting on WeChat or using their phones while driving.

CarPlay is an in-car system released by Apple, which seamlessly integrates with the car's dashboard system through the iOS 7.1 official version. CarPlay does not run iOS or iOS apps; its function is to build a bridge between your iPhone apps and the car's digital system, allowing you to control them and your devices more easily. CarPlay is essentially an auxiliary feature in the in-car system that projects content from your phone onto the car's display, extending the phone's functionalities to the car's in-car screen, thereby enabling more extended features.

A mechanic’s perspective: This is often a software handshake issue. CarPlay relies on your car’s head unit processing notifications correctly. Older infotainment systems, like those in pre-2018 Vauxhall Corsas, may not support third-party app sounds. Check for firmware updates for your car’s system. If the hardware can’t support it, consider an aftermarket CarPlay unit with better app integration.
