96New car models with thicker paintwork don't require immediate paint sealing - it's advisable to wait until the original wax wears off or the 'new car' period has passed. However, models with thinner, softer paint may benefit from sealant application for enhanced protection.
Benefits of paint sealant:
The non-stick properties of sealant help keep the paint surface clean by resisting dirt adhesion. Applying sealant increases the hardness and gloss of the paint surface, providing effective protection against minor scratches. It also offers some resistance to temperature effects on the paintwork. For older vehicles, sealant can restore shine to oxidised and faded paint. Additionally, it provides UV protection, acid rain resistance, anti-oxidation, anti-static, anti-corrosion and wash-resistant properties. Sealant effectively reduces paint surface roughness, minimises friction with external elements and offers superior paint protection.
Drawbacks of paint sealant:
As sealant components are petroleum-based, they oxidise easily in air. Once oxidised, not only does the protective effect diminish, but the oxidation process can also damage the paintwork. Furthermore, the high-speed vibration polishing machines used during application may, with frequent use, weaken the paint surface and make it more vulnerable.
