To reset the tire pressure light on a Mazda CX-5, follow these steps. The process varies slightly depending on the model year, but the general method remains consistent for most versions.

  1. Ensure all tires are inflated to the correct pressure, as specified in the owner’s manual or on the driver’s door sill sticker. Under or over-inflated tires can trigger the warning.
  2. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (engine off) and wait for the dashboard lights to illuminate.
  3. Locate the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) reset button, usually found near the steering column or in the glovebox.
  4. Press and hold the button until the TPMS light blinks twice (about 3-5 seconds). Release the button.
  5. Start the engine and drive for at least 10 minutes at speeds above 20 mph to allow the system to recalibrate.

For newer CX-5 models (2017 onwards), the reset may be done via the infotainment system: navigate to "Vehicle Status Monitor" and select "TPMS Reset." If the light persists, check for punctures or sensor faults.

A mechanic’s perspective: The CX-5’s TPMS reset is straightforward but often overlooked. After inflating tires to the correct PSI, use the reset button or infotainment menu. If the light stays on, one of the wheel sensors might be faulty—common in older models. A diagnostic tool can pinpoint which sensor needs replacing. Avoid ignoring the warning; incorrect pressure affects fuel efficiency and handling.

To turn off the tire pressure warning light on the CX5, you must adjust the tire pressure to the correct value. The CX5's tire pressure warning light cannot be manually reset. After adjusting the tire pressure to the normal level, drive the car for a few kilometers, and the tire pressure warning light will automatically turn off.

You can also visit a 4S shop or a professional auto repair shop and have the staff use a code reader to connect to the vehicle's computer for reset. Another method is to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, which can also reset the light. However, disconnecting the battery's negative terminal will restore many of the vehicle's settings to factory defaults.

There are mainly two types of tire pressure monitoring systems: indirect tire pressure monitoring, also known as passive tire pressure monitoring, and direct tire pressure monitoring. The Mazda CX5 is positioned as a compact SUV, with body dimensions of 4555mm in length, 1842mm in width, and 1685mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2700mm. It offers two drive modes: front-wheel drive and on-demand four-wheel drive.
