31When the car's fuel light comes on, you can typically drive about 30 kilometers.
There is no universal standard for how far you can drive after the fuel warning light comes on, as different car models have varying ranges. You can find this specific value in your car's manual.
Things to note when the fuel light comes on:
- It is not advisable to wait until the fuel light comes on to refuel. First, with low fuel levels, aggressive driving can cause significant vehicle tilting, which may affect the fuel pump's operation. Second, after the fuel warning light comes on, there's no guarantee you'll find a gas station within the remaining range. Additionally, refueling only after the light comes on is feasible only if you can find a gas station nearby. If the distance is too far, there's a risk of damaging the fuel pump and fuel level sensor.
- Before going on a road trip, always plan your route carefully, identify gas station locations, and ensure you have sufficient fuel. If you do end up driving until the fuel warning light comes on, try to avoid sudden acceleration and braking, and turn off the air conditioning to prevent increased fuel consumption.
