The consequences of blocking the exhaust pipe with a plastic bag are as follows:

Insufficient Power: Intake, compression, power, and exhaust are the working cycles of a four-stroke engine. The task of the exhaust pipe is naturally to expel exhaust gases. For the exhaust gases to be discharged smoothly, they must pass through the exhaust manifold in the engine section, the catalytic converter in the middle section, and finally exit through the tailpipe.

In principle, inserting a plastic bag affects the exhaust process, which in turn impacts the intake phase. When the intake phase is compromised, it leads to insufficient power. To maintain power, the vehicle will automatically increase fuel injection. However, the extra fuel injected cannot burn completely due to insufficient air intake, creating a vicious cycle.

Abnormal Vehicle Operation: The exhaust temperature is very high. If the exhaust is blocked, the high temperature can damage the pipes, leading to other malfunctions.

Therefore, although blocking the exhaust pipe with a plastic bag won’t cause an explosion, it can easily result in abnormal vehicle operation. If the blockage is severe, it may directly prevent the engine from starting or cause it to stall, which can have serious consequences.
