Audi Tyre Pressure Warning: How to Identify Which Tyre is Faulty

The Audi tyre pressure warning light indicates low pressure in one or more tyres, but it doesn’t specify which one. To identify the faulty tyre, follow these steps:

  1. Check all tyres visually. Look for obvious signs of deflation, bulges, or damage. A visibly flat tyre is likely the culprit.
  2. Use a tyre pressure gauge. Measure the pressure in each tyre (including the spare, if applicable) and compare it to Audi’s recommended PSI, found in the owner’s manual or on the driver’s door jamb sticker. The tyre with significantly lower pressure is the faulty one.
  3. Inspect for punctures. If pressure drops rapidly, listen for hissing or feel around the tread and sidewalls for embedded objects like nails.
  4. Reset the TPMS. After inflating the tyres to the correct pressure, reset the system via the infotainment screen or dashboard menu. If the warning returns, the faulty tyre may have a slow leak.

For persistent issues, visit a garage for a professional inspection. Underinflated tyres reduce fuel efficiency, handling, and safety, especially on motorways.

Audi’s TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) alerts you to pressure loss but won’t pinpoint the exact tyre. Here’s a quick method:

  1. Pull over safely and manually check each tyre with a pressure gauge.
  2. The faulty tyre will read below Audi’s recommended PSI (usually 32-35 PSI for most models).
  3. If no gauge is available, look for visible sagging or listen for leaks.

Modern Audis like the A3 or Q5 may show individual tyre pressures in the virtual cockpit—check the vehicle status menu.

  1. The A4 comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, but it can only detect discrepancies between the four tyres (triggering an alarm when the difference between the highest and lowest tyre pressure exceeds 0.3), without specifying which particular tyre is affected.
  2. It is advisable to visit an authorised dealership for a vehicle lift inspection. With the car raised, carefully rotate each tyre while examining the tread for any embedded nails. If found, apply water to check for air bubbles – their presence indicates a puncture, necessitating tyre removal and repair.

Resetting the old tyre pressure warning light.

① Press the "CAR" button first, then locate the blank button to the right of "TEL". ② Use the control knob to select the "Maintenance and Inspection" option. ③ This will open another menu where you can select "Tyre Pressure Monitoring System", followed by "Store Tyre Pressures". ④ Two options will appear on screen – select "Yes, save". 2. Resetting the new tyre pressure warning light

Navigate to the [Settings and Services] option in the vehicle menu, select Settings, then proceed to choose [System Maintenance]. After completing these steps, locate the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Important tyre maintenance notes

â‘  Check tyre pressures at least monthly.

â‘¡ Only check pressures when tyres are cold.

â‘¢ Never reduce tyre pressure when they are hot.

â‘£ Adjust pressures accordingly when carrying heavy loads.

⑤ Allow gradual acceleration – sudden acceleration causes significant tyre wear.
