Description

Why we need you:

So many people fear that a hospice is simply a place to go to die. This is one of the many myths that surround the word ‘hospice’. Sadly, people turn down the offer of help from St Clare because of this fear, not realising that a ‘hospice’ is not a building but a very special way of caring.

There are many amazing moments that go on in and around the Hospice and we need your help to capture them, helping us to tell the story of what hospice care is really like.

Our two person communications team currently take many of our photos, but they are not professional photographers. They are supported by a small team of volunteers with varying photography skills and experience. We are always in need of people with established photography skills and experience who would be willing to offer some of their time to St Clare.

What will I be doing?

The job will be varied and could include taking photos at:-
• Corporate events
• General activities at the Hospice
• Fundraising events including walks, runs etc.
• Capturing special moments with patients and families

What skills will I need?

You will need to have some professional experience of photography work, own your own camera, be able to download and send us photos that we can use. You will also be happy to work with people and don’t mind being outside during the events when relevant.

How much time do I need to commit?

As most of our events take place during the evenings and weekends, you will be happy to commit to helping us outside of normal office hours. The commitment will be sporadic depending on when our events are. For example, it may be a couple of hours one evening for an event and then half a day at a weekend a few weeks later at another event. We may also ask you to come and take some general photos of our patients and our staff, which we will try to do a number of times throughout the year.

What support will I be given?

You will have a member of staff support you during your work time. The staff member will also take full responsibility for gaining peoples consent.

What benefits can I expect?

• Experience of working on specific events
• Become part of a passionate team.
• Spend your time doing something that is worthwhile and rewarding
• Photographs for your portfolio
• Gain new experiences
• Meet new people.
• Day to day support from a designated member of staff
• Travel expenses will be reimbursed when agreed in advance

Where will I be based?

This will vary depending on the event you are helping at, it may be at St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood or if you are helping out at evenings or weekends at an event it will be at an external venue.

How do I apply?

Click on 'Apply' to contact us via email or call the Voluntary Services Manager on 01279 773722.

You will be asked to complete an application form, provide two referees and to attend an informal interview. If appropriate you will be asked to complete a DBS check (formerly CRB check)
