Description

CITROEN BERLINGO 1.6 - MOT until May 2026

Thank you for reading my ad for this Citroen Berlingo. It is a van I took in part exchange for a Renault Trafic which I sold to a colleague where I work. He needed a bigger van as he had moved from electrician / small jobs to kitchen fitter…
Overall the van is mechanically sound and I have given it quite a thorough test drive as it was taxed and I drove it for several weeks. It is quite happy at motorway speeds and equally as content pottering around town.

From a driving point of view, the car sits fairly upright, so gives a clear view of the road and is a pleasure to drive.

This little Citroen is a 1.6 diesel model with a five speed gearbox and it starts on the button with no rattles or bangs! The car shifts well through the gears, and stops without pulling to one side. The car has a good long MOT and won't need doing until May 2026.

You'll be pleased to know that when I first put the van through the MOT it failed on the smoke test, and a faulty turbo was diagnosed as the problem! The reason this is good news for you is that I had to buy a brand new turbo (from Essex Turbos) and had that fitted. I've taken a picture of it, and you can see it in the gallery.

As part of that process it's advisable to have an oil and filter change as well to make sure any swarf from the turbo doesn't make it's way round the engine, so that's been done as well. Additionally, and because it was a little slow in starting, I've also put a brand new battery on it as well.

If that wasn't enough, I noticed a power steering fluid leak so it's also had the power steering fluid pipes replaced as well - a bit of a common problem on these apparently.

All in all, it's just had some quite significant new parts added this year alone for your peace of mind!

Interior

There’s not much to say that the photographs won’t show, but I have to say that the interior has worn well. The steering wheel is evenly worn and the gear gaiter was recently replaced with a new one – so the interior is actually pretty good. The back of the van is quite clean and tidy as well, so all in all it’s quite a presentable van.

The van itself has power steering, electric windows, remote central locking, a CD player, air conditioning, adjustable steering column, and that all important third seat in the middle. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want to be sat in that third seat for any long length of time, but it is there when needed. That middle seat folds down to create a handy table if you need to do paperwork.

It's also worth mentioning that the van comes with Bluetooth as well so you can hook your phone up to it for calls. It has a phone cradle in there as well if you used your phone for maps. The air con does run nice and cool as well, so ideal as we head into the depths of winter!!

Exterior

The good news is that I cannot find any rust. On the MOT there was no indication of any corrosion related advisories, so whilst we can never say a van is rust free, I can say that rust is not an issue that needs to be a concern on this one. The body work is not immaculate; I've always thought that ply line kits pay for themselves over time and this one proves the point. There are a few dinks and things from things that were inside the van that maybe moved around in transit and caused some 'reverse dents' when looking from the outside. The pictures show all this up so feel free to zoom in and have a look.

The massive plus point to this van is the Rhino roof rack which carries 6 x 4 sheets with ease. This van will suit a plasterer or other tradesman that needs to carry that size sheet. The roof rack itself is a £500 item to buy new.

Additionally the van is red, which looks good in the sunlight, and the van is overall set off with a decent and clean set of wheels (with brand new trims).

Summary

So that’s it really – a good looking cheap van which runs and drives perfectly, and with a super useful roof rack, that will get you started if you are looking to run a van for your trade.

Just a quick note about me – I am a Civil Engineer by trade and I have had a long standing car hobby which involves me generally buying a vehicle, going all ‘over the top’ with fixing everything then selling it on usually for what I paid for it! The idea is that I get a few months driving out of it, so my motoring costs are essentially zero. Because of that, and the fact that on the odd occasion I make a few quid, I am registered as a Motor Trader which means that you have all the guarantees the law affords you. In other words, I won’t be hiding behind the fact that this may not strictly fall under the category of a retail vehicle and I don’t agree with any of that ‘cheap car / sold as seen’ stuff – if you have a problem I’m on the end of the phone, and I pride myself on being fair with people. I sell cars from my house, so you know where I live – and the last thing I want is an upset customer knocking at my door.

All in all, please feel free to come round and have a look at the car. Bring a friend or mechanic if you want and look around at your leisure. I have a kettle, so if nothing else, pop round and I’ll make you a cuppa while you look at it.

That’s it from me really – by all means get in touch if you want to ask any questions, but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t call after ten pm as that’s just a little too late in the day for me.

Many thanks for reading the advert. I look forward to hearing from you.

Rob
