Description

Job Title: Operational Manager – Youth Justice Service Location: Sefton (Hybrid/On-site)

Contract Type: Fixed Term – 6 months (with potential for extension)

Pay Rate: £27.60 PAYE / £36.29 LTD per hour (paid via umbrella company)

Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role Sefton’s Youth Justice Service is seeking a skilled and motivated Operational Manager to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension. This is a key leadership role for an experienced professional who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people within the youth justice system.

You will play a central part in ensuring high-quality service delivery, effective team management, and strong multi-agency collaboration, including with Children’s Social Care and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide operational leadership and day-to-day management oversight to Youth Justice Service staff.

Ensure effective delivery of statutory youth justice interventions and support services.

Monitor and improve practice standards, ensuring compliance with national guidance and local policies.

Collaborate closely with multi-agency partners to deliver integrated services for young people and their families.

Contribute to strategic planning and service development as part of the wider management team.

Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

A relevant professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Probation, Youth Justice, or equivalent).

A leadership or management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience in leading services.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Youth Justice sector and current legislation, guidance, and best practice.

Proven ability to lead teams and drive high-quality performance in a multi-agency context.

Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.

Desirable

Previous experience managing within a local authority Youth Justice Service.

Experience working with performance frameworks and inspection preparation.

Familiarity with youth offending case management systems and reporting tools.
