This role has a starting salary of 41,585 per annum, based on a 36–hour working week.

We are excited to be recruiting a Driving Skills Trainer to join the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, based at Wray Park Training Centre in Reigate.

As the Driving Skills Trainer, you will be part of a small team responsible for delivering initial driver training / periodic reassessments for service personnel. These will include delivering:

LGV licence acquisition practical trainingNFCC approved Response Driver Training for category C and B vehiclesSpecialist vehicle courses (Hook lift Container System / Moffett forklift/ trailer use4x4 off road instructionPeriodic reassessment of above skillsPrimarily based in Reigate, you may be required to travel to locations around the County to meet the demands of this role. Working hours are usually a 7.2 hour day within normal office hours. However, there will be some occasions when driving instruction and assessments will require a longer working day outside office hours. Any additional hours accrued as time in lieu and taken off by agreement with line manager.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

Holder of a clean full manual DVSA driving licence for category B and C vehicles (held for a minimum of 3 years)Recent experience in driving a large goods vehicle (Cat C or C+E) and ability to supervise / train provisional licence holders in category C vehicles to pass practical DVSA testCommunicate effectively in the workplace, both verbally and in writing, and vary your delivery style based on the needs of your studentsA recent response driving / instructing qualification gained from statutory emergency services authority (such as Fire, Police, or Ambulance)Confident in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and ExcelMobility sufficient to climb and enter LGV's and travel throughout the countyTo apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following questions:

Do you currently hold a clean, full manual DVSA driving licence for category B and C vehicles, and have you held it for at least 3 years? If so, please describe your recent experience driving large goods vehicles.Have you previously supervised or trained provisional licence holders in category B or C vehicles? Please provide examples of how you supported them in preparing for and passing the DVSA practical test.Describe a situation where you had to adapt your communication style to suit the needs of a student or colleague. How did you ensure your message was understood clearly?Have you gained a recent response driving or instructing qualification from a statutory emergency services authority (e.g., Fire, Police, or Ambulance)? Please provide details including the issuing authority and date of qualification.Please describe your experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. How have you used these tools in a training or operational context?Note: A driving assessment will form part of the interview process with a pre drive vehicle safety check, reversing exercise, and routine drive to include a commentary. Applicants must be able to prove qualification and share DVSA driver information with hiring managers before any assessment takes place.

The successful candidate must be able to attain membership of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Response Driving / Approved driving instructor (ADI) registers within a reasonable timescale.
