Job Title: Transport Planner (General Haulage Night Shift)

Location: Rugby

Salary: GBP32,500 – GBP35,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Night shift (start between 6:00pm and 7:00pm, finish approx. 4:00am 5:00am)

Employment Type: Full–Time, Permanent

Overview We are looking for an experienced Night Shift Transport Planner to join our general haulage operation in Rugby. You will be responsible for managing overnight trunking, coordinating drivers and vehicles, and ensuring smooth handovers between operational shifts. This role requires someone who is confident working independently, can remain calm under pressure, and has strong knowledge of haulage, driver regulations, and route planning.

Key Responsibilities Plan and oversee nightly haulage operations, including trunking, collections, and deliveries across the UK.

Allocate drivers, vehicles, and trailers efficiently based on operational needs and legal compliance.

Monitor ongoing work throughout the night, responding quickly to route issues, delays, customer changes, or breakdowns.

Provide clear communication and support to drivers working overnight.

Ensure all planning and execution aligns with driver hours and Working Time Directive legislation.

Maintain accurate system records including job progress, trailer positioning, fuel use, and driver hours.

Prepare next–day operational plans and complete thorough handovers to morning planning teams.

Liaise with maintenance and yard teams to ensure vehicle readiness for the next operational period.

Skills and Experience Required Previous experience in transport planning within general haulage (essential).

Strong understanding of UK road networks, driver hours regulations, and compliance.

Able to work independently and make confident decisions, especially during out–of–hours operations.

Excellent communication skills with a supportive and professional approach toward drivers.

Strong IT skills, particularly with Transport Management Systems and Excel.

High level of organisation and attention to detail.
