Description

We are looking to recruit a Head of Major Projects and Programmes to join our team based at our Midlands site. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a salary of circa GBP55,000 per annum.

The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our Vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story the people who shape it and its place in our lives.

We have two public sites (London and Midlands) and a stored collection (Stafford). Our trading company and active fundraising supplement Grant in Aid which comes through the Ministry of Defence.

The Royal Air Force Museum is a Carbon Literate organisation and as such promotes Carbon Literacy.

Purpose of the Head of Major Projects and Programmes role:

We are looking for an experienced Head of Major Projects and Programmes to join the Museum team at an exciting time as we deliver the GBP28M Inspiring Everyone: RAF Museum Development Programme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

You will lead and champion the delivery of this programme and agreed major projects to budget, defined deadlines and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities of our Head of Major Projects and Programmes include:

Supporting the Senior Leadership Team in the development and delivery of major projects and programmes (capital projects and engagement) Project managing agreed major projects and programmes including the Delivery Phase of the Inspiring Everyone: RAF Museum Midlands Development Programme Leading and motivating staff and volunteers ensuring plans are progressed successfully Being an active member of the Senior Management Group working as part of the team to lead and model good practice across the organisation Ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders, both internally and externally to build and maintain partnerships Working closely with other departments to deliver museum-wide programmes and objectives Working to reduce operational costs and maximise resources whilst maintaining standards of products and services Upholding both the spirit and letter of the Museums Association s Code of EthicsWhat we are looking for in our Head of Major Projects and Programmes:

Demonstrable experience in developing, project managing and delivering major projects (capital and engagement activity) in a museum or heritage environment Demonstrable experience in project budget setting and management with budgets of more than GBP5M Is able to inspire team to engage with the long-term vision and purpose of the Museum. Delegates decision making to the right level within team Willing to make difficult decisions, pragmatically weighing up the complexities against the need to act and demonstrates resilience in communicating and implementing decisions Pushes themselves and team to achieve, setting a clear plan and objectives and ensuring they/their team stay focused Demonstrates positivity in relation to change and encourages team to embrace change Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering National Lottery Heritage Fund supported projects Prince2 Practitioner/ MSP Practitioner or equivalent experienceClosing Date: 26th August 2025 at 10am
