Specialist Teaching Assistant Roles – York

Full Time | Long-Term Roles | SEMH & PMLD Focus | September Start

We’re working with a specialist provision in York who are looking to appoint two outstanding Teaching Assistants—one to support pupils with SEMH needs, and one to join their team supporting pupils with PMLD.

Both roles are full-time, long-term, and start in September, with the opportunity to become something really meaningful for the right people.

This is a setting that understands the power of a consistent, caring adult. Whether you’re helping a pupil regulate their emotions, supporting complex medical or physical needs, or simply being that calm presence in the room—your role will matter, every single day.

About the roles:

SEMH Role: You’ll be working closely with pupils who may struggle with behaviour, trust, or emotional regulation. If you’ve got resilience, a sense of humour, and the ability to set calm, firm boundaries—this could be a brilliant fit.

PMLD Role: This role involves working with children who have profound and multiple learning difficulties. You’ll need a gentle, intuitive approach and a willingness to support with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs.

Both positions are part of a wider, supportive team who work together to make the school day manageable, meaningful, and positive for every pupil.

You don’t need to come from a school background—we’re also keen to hear from those with experience in care, youth work, or similar. What matters most is your attitude, reliability, and care for the children you support.

Not quite right for you?

We also have other roles across York and the surrounding area—including EYFS, mainstream Primary, and SEN support in both schools and alternative provisions.

Apply now or get in touch to talk it through.

Let’s find something that works for you—and makes a real difference to the pupils who need you most
