Job Title: Assistant Education Manager

Location: HMP The Mount

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday (100% site-based)

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and motivational Assistant Education Manager to join a dynamic education team within a secure environment. This is a pivotal leadership role supporting the Education Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the education department, driving curriculum innovation, quality improvement, and learner achievement.

As part of the senior management team, you will take ownership of performance targets, staff development, and curriculum planning to ensure high-quality education delivery that meets the needs of learners and partners. You will also deputise for the Education Manager as required, ensuring a consistent and responsive approach across the site.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support the Education Manager in the leadership and operational delivery of the education department.

* Manage, mentor, and develop teaching and support staff to achieve learner success and contractual targets.

* Take a lead role in the quality assurance of teaching, learning, and assessment across curriculum areas.

* Support curriculum development and innovation to meet learner and employer needs, including Functional Skills and work-based programmes.

* Monitor teaching performance, learner induction, classroom allocations, and behaviour within the department.

* Lead and contribute to self-assessment reporting, quality improvement planning, and resource management.

* Liaise with awarding organisations to ensure compliance and quality standards.

* Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, and development of the learning environment.

* Represent the department in meetings and maintain effective internal and external partnerships.

* Deliver teaching sessions as required and lead on standardisation and professional development activities.

* Comply fully with security procedures and all prison-specific regulations.

Essential Criteria:

* Level 5 or above Teaching Qualification

* Level 3 or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths

* Demonstrable experience managing curriculum development and driving quality improvement

* Strong knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF)

* Experience of managing and developing teams to meet performance targets

* Commitment to reducing re-offending through high-quality education and training

* Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills

Desirable Criteria:

* Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance

* Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager Qualification

* Experience working in a secure or justice setting

* Understanding of prison education, offender learning needs, and reintegration pathways
