Description

The Elka Synthex is an ultra rare polyphonic vintage synthesizer. This beast is considered by some to be among the top ten synthesizers ever made, up there with the Moog Memorymoog, Prophet V, OBX-a and Jupiter-8.

It was made famous by Jean-Michel Jarre who used the Synthex heavily on his album Rendezvous. Most notably the Synthex is the sound of his laser harp. Jean-Michel Jarre still uses the Synthex today.

Keith Emerson toured with the Synthex. It was the only synth he could find that could recreate the powerful brass sound from his monster Yamaha GX-1, which he originally used on Fanfare for the Common Man, but was way too big to tour with.

The Synthex uses DCO's, which means you do not suffer reliability/tuning problems like other polysynths from the same era. Thanks to the digitally controlled oscillators the Synthex can create a wide timbre of sounds. It is perfectly capable of producing very warm and powerful brass/strings/pads, thunderous basses, cutting leads, lush electric pianos and great FX.

The preset patches are good. But as with any synth, to unlock its potential you need to get twiddling and creating your own sounds. The Synthex is very quick and easy to work with, with a large panel of good sized controls that are laid out well.

You only need to google Elka Synthex to see how highly this synth is regarded. It may not be as famous as an OBXa or a Jupiter-8 but it is just as capable. Some people have even preferred the Synthex over these well known classics.

The Synthex I am selling has been with me since 2002. I bought it from a company called Music Control. I have the original receipt.

In that time it has sat in my studio at home and has been well looked after. It has a few minor chips and scratches on the woodwork. (What you would expect from an instrument that is over 30 years old.) But it is in perfect working order.

This model has built in MIDI (not the break out box version). The MIDI implementation is basic, but it works. It is currently set to CH1.

The Synthex is an amazing polysynth and a beautiful instrument. It has a unique sound that other synths just cant get close to. It is a valuable and important asset for any electronic musician, whether they are producing trance, prog, dance, ambient.. the Synthex can do it all.

These synthesizers very rarely come up for sale, and are usually snapped up pretty quickly.

There are many Youtube videos of the Synthex to check out. However if you need more information then please let me know.

Please be aware that this synthesizer is BIG and HEAVY, so delivery costs will be substantial. This is a cost I expect the buyer to cover.

I am happy to deliver in person to any buyer within a reasonable distance. Likewise, collection is also acceptable.

This is a reluctant sale and I will be heartbroken to see it go.
