Description
Lovely sounding Tannoy speakers from the 1980s, with refurbished woofers. I don't have the grilles for them but why would you want to cover up the 80s gold graphics?
The Mercury MkII was introduced in 1987, priced at £150 a pair and were a Hifi Choice magazine Best Buy at the time, making it onto the front cover of their 1986 book (see last pic). It is a front ported 2 way design, using an a soft dome tweeter and 8 inch polyolefin mid/bass driver.
The rubber surrounds on the woofers had perished and cracked. It took me a long time to find replacements that would fit but eventually some good quality foam surrounds turned up on the market.
They have a dynamic, well balanced sound with bags of detail and are a very easy load for amplifiers.
The vinyl finish has a few little nicks on the extremities, but they are in very good overall condition.
