About this client/child: Zach is soon to be 14 years old, and lives at home with his Mum, Step Dad, twin sisters (6) and older brother. He is the very heart of a loving and supportive family and has a dedicated team of SEN Support Workers / PA providing round the clock care that consists of 2:1 support during the day, and 1:1 waking night care. Zach loves swimming in his pool, listening to music and stories, sensory play and being outdoors; no matter the weather, he will always want to go out for a walk. His All-Terrain wheelchair is arriving soon; there will be no stopping his outdoor adventures. Zach has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy (VNS in situ), Global Development Delay, Dystonia, Osteopenia, and is registered blind. He receives his medication via a PEG and enjoys a soft/blended diet orally – he absolutely loves his food! He uses his body language, facial expressions and sounds to support his communication and his family are currently looking at options to further enhance his communication skills. At school he sometimes uses Eye Gaze. Zach’s family home is fully adapted to meet all his needs, including ceiling track hoists.

Overview of role: Zach’s SEN Support Worker will continually promote his independence, advocate for him, and enable him to access the world around him and participate in all aspects of family, and daily life. Zach is dependent on others to meet all his health, care, medical needs, and his ADLs. During the day you will work alongside a team member, supporting Zach to get ready for school, in the afternoon, assisting with therapy, or extra-curricular activities – he has a busy schedule! During a waking night shift, Zach likes to have his own space, and a video monitor is in place to alert you as and when he requires support. A staff room with kitchenette is provided. Weekends and School Holidays there is lots of scope to plan activities and arrange trips. The rota is provided in 4 weeks advance and will consist of a mixture of day and night shifts. When Zach is at school, and if you are on shift you are paid a £20.00 retainer in addition to the day rate.

Who this job would suit: An outgoing, motivated, proactive, and intuitive and respectful SEN Support Worker / PA. Experience in complex care is not essential, all training is provided – the most important thing is a genuine passion and interest in supporting a young person to reach their full potential.

What’s great about this job: Being part of Team Zach! The role offers an exceptional level of person-centered training including rehabilitation therapy; you’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques.
