Description

Job Title: Children’s Support Worker

Location: West Lancashire, Skelmersdale

Reporting to: Registered Manager / Team Leader

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age

Salary • 24-Hour staff - £13.50 per waking hour, sleep-in rate - £70.00 per sleep

• Waking night staff - £15.00 per hour

• Bank holiday rate - time and a half (x 1.5) Hours: Shift work (including weekends, evenings, and sleep-ins as required)

Shifts available: • 24-Hour shift – 8am - 8am (8am-10pm awake,10pm - 7am asleep)

• Waking night shift - 10pm - 7 am

Contract Type: Self-Employed

Job Purpose: To provide high-quality individualised care, support, promote and practice safeguarding for children and young people in a residential home. The role focuses on emotional wellbeing, developing independence, supporting the child to reach their full capability academically and enabling each young person to reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment to prepare them for independent living.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build trusting, therapeutic relationships with children and young people.

• Promote the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of all residents.

• Implement individualised care plans and risk assessments effectively.

• Support children with daily living activities, including meals, personal care, education, emotional support and recreation.

• Provide a safe and secure environment for the child.

• Encourage positive behavior and help manage challenging behaviors in line with the home’s behavior management policy.

• Maintain accurate records including daily logs, incident reports, and safeguarding concerns.

• Attend and contribute to team meetings, reviews, and training sessions.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, external professionals, and families to ensure the best outcomes for children.

• Safeguard children in line with statutory regulations and the home’s safeguarding policy.

• Establish and build positive trusting relationships with the child. Acting as a consistent and reliable adult figure in their lives.

• All staff must adhere to GDPR and confidentiality policies by ensuring that all records and sensitive information are kept secure and are not discussed outside of the workplace or with anyone who is not authorised.

Working Conditions:

• Work involves shift patterns including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in duties.

• Emotional resilience is essential due to the nature of the work.

• Requires compliance with health and safety and safeguarding policies.

Person Specification:

Experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs and/or challenging behaviour in a residential care, school, or supportive setting.

Excellent communication and active listening skills, ability to stay calm under pressure. Demonstrating an Understanding of Equality and Non-Discriminatory Practice Patience and Resilience Professional Boundaries Skills Knowledge Personal Qualities Staff are expected to work well as part of a team collectively and collaboratively, communicate effectively, and always show mutual respect to one another, creating a positive and supportive team environment. Staff must consistently implement the home's Statement of Purpose and follow all policies and procedures in their daily practice to ensure safe, consistent, and child-centred care. Staff have a duty to report any concerns about poor practice or safeguarding issues through the home's whistleblowing procedures, without fear of retaliation Understanding of safeguarding, child development, trauma-informed care and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Empathetic, reliable, patient, emotionally resilient and an excellent role model.

Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work toward it). Other Willing to undergo Enhanced DBS check; full UK driving licence (preferred).
