Dancing Water is an eight and a half by four metre static houseboat moored at Swan Island Harbour in Strawberry Vale, Twickenham, right on the River Thames. The boat is of metal hull construction with a metal and timer framed, timber clad superstructure.

Newly refurbished, the boat was dry docked in October 2017 to have the hull checked, blacked, and have new anodes fitted. Both the exterior and interior have been repainted at the same time.

An unusually high ceiling helps create a sense of space that is usually lacking on houseboats, whilst not losing the cosy charm expected. The entire living area save bathroom is laid with a timber effect laminate over a heat shielding rubber and foil underlay.

The modern kitchen has plenty of cupboard space at floor and head height. The counter continues along into a breakfast bar to seat two. There is an under counter electric cooker while the hob runs on calor gas, fuelled from a bottle housed on the roof.

The bathroom features a Mira power shower in a large 3'x2' cubicle with waste pump concealed under floor. A compact and sanitary chemical toiltet has been fitted to comply with waste regulations. All on board plumbing was updated under five years ago and Dancing Water no longer has any stored hot water in order to save space and reduce electricity bills. Hot water is supplied by under sink units and the shower has a built in element. An on board pump keeps the system pressurised and access to all plumbing systems is easy.

The lounge is very spacious and easily accommodates two small to medium sized sofas with room for other furniture as well.

Dancing Water is currently arranged in a one bedroom layout but the dividing wall is non structural and easily removed to create an open plan space. At present it fits a large king size bed plus wardrobes and has proved flexible in terms of possible layouts.

An Acorn multi-fuel stove provides most of the heating. It sits down one side of the boat mid-ship on a scratch resistant glass plate, which protects the floor and aids heat distribution. It has provision for a back boiler should you wish to run cheap heating to other parts of the boat but we have found it ample for our needs. The bathroom is heated by a swing out radiator / towel rail which is mounted on the wall opposite the shower door. For colder times an electric radiator is fitted opposite the bedroom door in the entrance to the lounge which offers a quick fix until the stove gets going.

We've tried to create as much storage space as possible, thusly the steps down from the front door also serve as storage bins with hinged tops . Similarly, the space under the entrance landing has been turned into a cupboard with over sixteen cubic feet of storage space. Access to this is via sliding doors in the bedroom. The roof has further storage space in the form of a large top and front opening shed (also where the gas bottle is stored)

There is a ladder on the side of the boat providing access to the roof, which has plenty of seating and space to relax and enjoy the wonderful views of the river Thames and it's wildlife.

Swan Island itself is a private and tranquil area away from the main road, which is highly sought after. Mooring fees for the vessel are around £260 pcm. The local community are friendly and helpful, making the island a safe and pleasant place to live. The island benefits from off street parking and has washer/drier facilities plus waste disposal and ablutions if required. There is a local shop right outside the car park which caters for most urgent requirements, whilst Twickenham high street is only a five minute walk away, for everything else you could need.

Swan Island's surrounding area is peaceful and makes for many a quick walk or day out. Radnor Gardens is visible from the roof and only a two minute walk away. In the opposite direction you find Teddington Lock and Bridge. Buses stop outside the car park every fifteen minutes or less heading for Richmond or Hampton Court. There are many local pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area, the closest pub being the Alexander Pope just two minutes walk away.

Travel links are exceptional. The M3 is a five minute drive away, leading swiftly on to the M25; the A4 is easily reached even in rush hour; and Kingston and Richmond are both only five minutes by car. There are two local stations - Strawberry Hill and Twickenham. Strawberry Hill is two minutes walk away and Twickenham, ten. Both serve London Waterloo regularly. Buses run from outside to Teddington, Richmond, Fulwell, Hampton Court (for trains to Guildford via Surbiton), and Hammersmith. Buses from the high street also service Whitton, Hounslow, Staines, and Feltham amongst others.
