Mechanical Designer
Salary 55,000, Keynsham, BS31, 33 days holiday, pension, sick pay, parking, Monday to Friday 37 hour week, potential for flexible start and finish times, Permanent role.
A great opportunity to join an established, friendly and stable manufacturing company in Keynsham as a mechanical design engineer to develop equipment concepts and schemes that can be assembled, built and commissioned safely and effectively. Solidworks is utilised to create detail drawings and material schedules which are clear, accurate and cost effective to meet the requirements of the specification. This role would suit an experienced Design engineer reports to the Engineering manager.
The mechanical design engineer or Mechanical designer role involves
Design and develop specialised machinery utilising Solidworks to meet customer expectations and requirements Assisting with the preparation of design proposals, tenders and documents Report problems and deficiencies in the design brief, and develop pragmatic cost–effective solutionsProvide technical leadership to production personnel and other staffProduce technical information, drawings and associated schedules and documents, adhering to H & S requirements, designs, specifications and standards relating to the project Maintain drawing files and records throughout the duration of the projectBe the primary technical contact for the CAD/PDM system, liaising to resolve day–to–day problems Working in conjunction with the Network Manager oversee the required activities to implement CAD/PDM software & hardware updates, and upgradesAttend visits with colleagues to customers to commission & test machines and resolve problemsLiaise with or suppliers & distributorsEnsure as built specifications are recorded, and system function is tested and proven prior to commissioning Training including system familiarisation Identify opportunities to continuously improve the performance & reliability of equipment through innovative design improvements, and where appropriate the use of new emerging technologies

The position would suit a candidate educated to degree level or HNC/D level or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering or design disciplineA minimum of 5 years experience ideally as a key member of a design teamExtensive experience in 3D modelling with SolidWorks is required PDM knowledge is desirableAny packaging industry knowledge specifically or capital equipment or special purpose machine design would be of particular interestKnowledge of CE and Health & Safety legislation Understanding of continuous improvement techniques Organised and pragmatic problem solverProject management skills and the ability to assess risk Ability to negotiate and positively influence customers during the project processCurrent driving license and passport are required for this role as travel will be involved to customers from time to time
The mechanical design engineer or Mechanical designer role is working with an established and friendly production engineering company on the outskirts of Bristol in Keynsham where you will be an integral part of the design engineering team.
