Description

Land Rover defender 110 county station wagon 2.5 diesel for sale

This is a very original and completely unmodified 1985 defender 110 station wagon. With 4 previous owners before me it's only clocked up 118k miles and the last 3k have been done by me in the last year.

Previously owned by a gentleman who lived on the South Downs and in his words "had it in case it snowed". It had covered less than 5k miles in the previous 7 years.

It has its original dealer service book that is fully stamped and has other original paperwork.

Since buying, it has been fully serviced and had a new timing timing belt 3k ago (yes these ones have a timing belt) and it's had new oils throughout.

It drives exceptionally well for an old Land Rover. There's a bit of smoke on start up (show me one that doesn't) but runs smoothly and quietly (for a Land Rover) and I've done a few 100 mile+ round trips with no issues as it plods along at 55mph all day. It can go faster but I try to be sympathetic!

The LT77 box changes well, the steering is precise and light (for a Land Rover) and brakes pull up sharply and evenly.

There are a few light bumps, chips and scratches on most panels but it's still fairly straight and the original paint still shines well with a lovely patina. The seats and headlining are in good condition and the dash still has a period tape player.

It's recently been MOT'ed (in the last week) and I'd happily drive it anywhere - if I wasn't in a hurry.

However, whilst the previous owner had not used it very much, at the same time it wasn't particularly cherished, parked outside on his drive.

So the chassis really needs a good wire brush and paint. I bought some paint, done a small part but have kept putting the rest off. It's had a rear crossmember a few years ago and a couple of patches elsewhere.

The sill brackets (not structural) that run behind the alloy sill panels have rotted and I have got new replacements from LRI but not got round to fitting them. These are included.

The top of the bulkhead is very good and the A posts are solid and B posts, though the drivers footwell will need some work for the next MOT as was flagged up as an advisory for corrosion. It will likely be due a dumb iron repair come next MOT as well. Both footwells have previously been repaired.

The bottoms of all the door frames have also rotted- again not structural and common issue. Some sympathetic repair will sort these out.

This is an honest old 110, its not messed around with which is very rare these days, but it is 32 years old so expect it is not "mint".

No swaps

*Contents such as Safety Pedal and steering lock not included.
